Philip Beesley
In the minor, Interactive Environments, we had one week in which we collaborated with the architect Philip Beesley. Philip Beesley creates living architecture systems.
Within this week we, as a group, had to collaborate with Philips and his team by building an entire interactive installation. I learned a lot about executing such large project in just one week. We were divided into small teams all producing a part of the installation. Hereby it was very important that we collaborated and communicated the steps taken once in a while. I learned a lot about presenting ideas, when presenting this to Philip we learned how to communicate our ideas and implement suggestions he made. I learned a lot from this sine I experienced it as quite challenging sometimes working for Philip as an architect and adjusting my solutions a few times a day. However it was very interesting and it taught me how to deal with this. The sculpture was created by thermoforming the plastic pillars. This was very new to me and I enjoyed creating this aesthetically pleasing sculpture.
Within the project due to the size of the group and time limits planning was very important. It made me realize how important this is. Also organization was very important due to the size of the project, a lot of components were lost once in a while due to students not collaborating with the system created. I learned how to work for a client and receiving and picking up feedback. Also I learned how to collaborate, plan and execute a project within such a large group with a lot of different students.
I was really impressed by the end result of the project, however the entire sculpture was made out of plastic which, in my opinion, was a waste of material since a lot of plastic was not used and thrown away.
