Project 3

In project 3 I designed for active office workers. In this project we researched walking meetings. During these kinds of meetings we identified note taking as an issue and focused therefore on notetaking during these meetings. We wanted to find out what requirements for a notetaking device are and therefore compared to ways of notetaking. For the project we compared spot it with a smartphone. We designed spot it, a note taking device located on the route saving your notes and sending it to you. We executed tests to be able to research what the requirements were for a notetaking device according to participants who would be using both devices.
Project 3 was a research project. I learned about the design research process. Within this I learned how to motivate the decisions made based on the research process. Another important aspect was creating a clear research question. I now know how to formulate a research question and the importance of making your research question specific. Also writing a paper helped me to understand the importance of being specific and I know now how to setup a research paper. I also learned how to be precise within framing your users.

Within the process I mostly focused on performing user tests and evaluating these results. Here I saw the importance of a good preparation for your tests results. And also what to perform to be able to receive relevant results. I learned how important it is to create a detailed study protocol to be able to answer your specific research question. While evaluating results from interviews I saw how carefully we have to look at the meaning of answers given by participants. Also the importance of consistency within tests became clear to me to be able to receive good results. As a designer focusing on users and usefulness this is very important to me.
